Findings from German E-Bike Health Study

If you are looking for a healthy and sustainable way to spend your vacation in Thailand, you might want to consider renting an e-bike from Siam Bike Tours and joining one of our cycling tours. e-bikes are electric bicycles that assist you with pedaling, making it easier and more enjoyable to ride long distances. But don’t think that e-bikes are just for lazy people who want to avoid exercise. In fact, a recent study in Germany has given proof of how healthy e-biking is.

This e-bike health study, conducted by the Institute for Sports Medicine at the Hannover Medical School, involved almost 2,000 test subjects who rode either e-bikes or regular bicycles for a period of six months. The researchers measured their heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and other health indicators before and after the study. They also asked them about their physical activity, well-being, and quality of life.

The results were surprising. The study found that both e-bikers and cyclists improved their health significantly during the study period. They lowered their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels, and increased their aerobic fitness and endurance. They also reported feeling happier, more relaxed, and more satisfied with their lives.

But what was even more interesting was that the e-bikers had similar health benefits as the cyclists, despite having a lower average heart rate and pedaling less intensely. The reason is that the e-bikers rode more often and longer than the cyclists, covering more distance and burning more calories. They also enjoyed riding more and were less deterred by hills, wind, or traffic.

The study’s director, Prof. Dr. Uwe Tegtbur, said that riding an e-bike is a great way to get fit and stay healthy, especially for people who have chronic diseases or are overweight. He said that e-biking can help them overcome their physical limitations and motivate them to be more active.
